Full Biography

Professor Siew Mooi is a Professor of Family Medicine Department and a Consultant Clinical Specialist at the Universiti Putra Malaysia (Malaysia). Her research interests encompass hypertension, stroke, gestational diabetes, addiction, and complementary alternative medicine. She has made significant contributions to these fields through her extensive research and academic leadership. Professor Siew Mooi has authored over 138 publications and has achieved a Scopus h-index of 25, reflecting the impact and recognition of her scholarly work. Her research has been widely disseminated, with multiple joint publications alongside collaborators from Asia, Europe, and the UK. She has played a pivotal role in various research projects, grants, and awards at both national and international levels. Her recent publications in the last five years include studies on neonatal outcomes associated with gestational diabetes mellitus, the risk of antepartum depression in diabetes during pregnancy, psychometric properties of the Malay version of the diabetes empowerment scale, factors affecting the quality of life among pregnant women with gestational diabetes mellitus, and the use of complementary alternative medicine among postpartum mothers in Malaysia. She has served as the corresponding author for these significant works, which have been published in high-impact journals such as Midwifery, International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, Health and Quality of Life Outcomes, Qual Life Res, and BMC Complement Med Ther. Professor Siew Mooi has also been actively involved in supervising postgraduate students. She has served as the main supervisor for PhD and Masters students, with several students having graduated under her guidance. She has also contributed as a co-supervisor for both PhD and Masters candidates, supporting their academic and research development. Her leadership extends to her involvement in international research grants. She has served as the main researcher for a project funded by Procter & Gamble (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, investigating the prevalence and factors associated with diabetic peripheral neuropathy in Malaysia. Additionally, she has contributed as a co-researcher to the Malaysian Gestational Diabetes and Prevention of Diabetes Study (MY GODDESS), a project in collaboration with King's College London. Professor Siew Mooi is a committee member of the International Society of Hypertension under the division of women and hypertension, as well as the Hypertension core group of The Indian Association for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition. Her expertise and leadership in these organizations highlight her commitment to advancing research and clinical practice in hypertension and related fields. Her achievements have been recognized with multiple awards, including four publication awards in 2021: Publication award, Best Clinical Research Award, Supervised Post-Graduate Student Award, and Supervised Student with Good Quality Publication Award. Notably, she is listed among the top 2% scientists in the world based on the Stanford Report 2021 (Career-Long Citation Impact Until End – 2020), underscoring her global standing in the scientific community.
