Dr. Hafidz bin Abd Hadi is a Consultant Cardiologist at the National Heart Institute (Institut Jantung Negara), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He specializes in adult cardiology, cardiac imaging including CT coronary, interventional cardiology, transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography (TEE), and contrast echocardiography. His clinical expertise encompasses both non-invasive and invasive cardiac procedures, such as exercise stress tests, echocardiograms, exercise cardiograms, coronary angiograms, coronary angioplasty including complex PCI, intravascular ultrasound, and optical coherence tomography (OCT). He is also proficient in transesophageal and contrast echocardiography, as well as reporting cardiac CT scans. Since 2015, Dr. Hafidz has managed a BP lab outpatient clinic in Taman Megah, Kuala Lumpur, and oversees the daily operations of the clinical cardiology unit, including emergency, coronary care, acute admissions, consult services, and both non-invasive and invasive investigations. Dr. Hafidz began his medical career as a House Officer at Hospital Selayang, Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia, in August 2005, followed by a position as Medical Officer at the same institution in January 2007. He then served as a Trainee Lecturer in Internal Medicine at University Technology Mara, Malaysia, in February 2008, and as a Masters Candidate at University Malaya, Malaysia, in May 2008. In June 2020, he was appointed as a Cardiologist at the National Heart Institute, and since October 2020, he has held the position of Consultant Cardiologist at the same institution. Throughout his career, Dr. Hafidz has been actively involved in research and academic activities. He has contributed to several cited articles and published journal articles, including works in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC) and the European Heart Journal. His research interests include acute myocardial infarction among COVID-19 vaccinated patients, drug-coated balloon registries, post-market clinical follow-up studies, and large-scale international studies such as ISCHEMIA and AEGIS-II. He has also participated as a co-researcher in master's degree research projects, focusing on clinical decision support systems to prevent drug-related events in critical cardiac patients. Dr. Hafidz is a member of several professional societies, including the National Heart Association of Malaysia (NHAM), the British Society of Echocardiography, the Malaysia Medical Association, and the Malaysian Society of Hypertension. He is frequently invited as a speaker and operator at national and international conferences, seminars, and workshops, covering topics such as LDL-C management following acute myocardial infarction, complex PCI in high bleeding risk patients, and the role of OCT in calcified lesions. He has chaired and participated in numerous symposiums and forums, reflecting his commitment to advancing cardiovascular medicine and sharing knowledge with peers and the public. In addition to his clinical and academic roles, Dr. Hafidz has contributed to public education through health talks, webinars, and live programs, addressing topics such as heart health during the COVID-19 pandemic, recognizing heart attack symptoms, and wellness strategies. His dedication to patient care, research, and education underscores his significant role in the field of cardiology in Malaysia.
