MAHATHAR BIN ABD WAHAB serves as the Head of Emergency and Trauma at Hospital Kuala Lumpur. With a medical career spanning more than 25 years, he has established himself as a leading figure in emergency medicine in Malaysia. His extensive experience is supported by a strong academic background and significant contributions to both clinical practice and medico-legal matters. He began his academic journey by earning a Bachelor of Medical Science (B Med Sc) from University St Andrews, Scotland, United Kingdom in June 1992. He then pursued and completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MB ChB) at the University of Manchester, United Kingdom, in June 1995. His commitment to furthering his expertise led him to obtain a Master of Medicine (Emergency Medicine), M. Med (Emerg Med), from Universiti Sains Malaysia in May 2003. Recognizing the importance of legal knowledge in medical practice, he also earned a Certificate in Medical Law from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) in 2006. Additionally, he holds a Fellowship in Emergency Critical Care and Critical Ultrasound from the World Interactive Network Focus on Critical Ultrasound (WINFOCUS) in 2015. MAHATHAR BIN ABD WAHAB has been fully registered with the Malaysian Medical Council since October 1, 1996 (MMC No 32500), and is also registered with the National Specialist Register (NSR – 126007 Emergency Medicine), Academy of Medicine Malaysia. His expertise in emergency medicine has made him a frequent expert witness in both the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the private sector, particularly in medico-legal cases. He has been actively engaging with medico-legal issues in the Ministry of Health for more than 10 years, reflecting his deep understanding of the intersection between medicine and law. In addition to his clinical and legal roles, he has held leadership positions within the professional community. Notably, he served as the Immediate Past President of the College of Emergency Physicians, Academy of Medicine Malaysia. This role underscores his commitment to advancing the field of emergency medicine and supporting the professional development of his peers. Throughout his career, MAHATHAR BIN ABD WAHAB has demonstrated a dedication to excellence in emergency care, medical education, and the integration of legal principles into medical practice. His leadership at Hospital Kuala Lumpur and his involvement in national professional organizations highlight his significant contributions to healthcare in Malaysia.
