Datin Emeritus Prof. Dr. Chia Yook Chin is a distinguished academic and clinician in primary care medicine, serving as Head of the Department of Medical Sciences at Sunway University and Honorary Professor at Universiti Malaya, with a research focus on hypertension, cardiovascular risk, and elderly care.
Datin Emeritus Prof. Dr. Chia Yook Chin is a distinguished academic and clinician in the field of primary care medicine. She currently holds the position of Professor of Primary Care Medicine and serves as the Head of the Department of Medical Sciences at Sunway University. In addition to her primary role, she is also an Honorary Professor at the Department of Primary Care Medicine, Universiti Malaya. Prof. Dr. Chia has made significant contributions to medical education in Malaysia. She was instrumental in establishing Malaysia’s first Master of Family Medicine program at Universiti Malaya in 1989, marking a major milestone in the development of family medicine as a recognized specialty in the country. Her commitment to advancing medical education continued in 2020 when she initiated the Postgraduate Diploma in Primary Care for the Elderly at Sunway University, demonstrating her dedication to improving healthcare for the aging population. Her research interests are centered on hypertension, cardiovascular risk, and elderly care. Prof. Dr. Chia has published numerous articles in leading journals, contributing valuable knowledge to the field and enhancing the understanding of chronic disease management and geriatric care in primary care settings. In recognition of her outstanding achievements and contributions, she has been honored with the Professor Emeritus title by Universiti Malaya. Additionally, she received the 2022 Graham MacGregor Excellence Award from the World Hypertension League, further underscoring her impact and leadership in the field of hypertension and cardiovascular health. Through her academic leadership, pioneering educational initiatives, and impactful research, Datin Emeritus Prof. Dr. Chia Yook Chin has played a pivotal role in shaping primary care medicine and advancing healthcare standards in Malaysia.
