Full Biography

Prof. Dr Liyana Najwa binti Inche Mat is a Medical Lecturer in Neurology at the Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). She holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, completed in 2007, and obtained her MRCP (UK) from the Royal College of Physicians, UK, in 2011. Her professional journey began as a Medical Officer with the Health Service Executive of Ireland from January 2008 to May 2012. She then served at the Ministry of Health Malaysia from December 2012 to July 2016. Since July 2016, she has been affiliated with Universiti Putra Malaysia, contributing to both clinical practice and academic teaching in the field of neurology. Liyana Najwa Inche Mat has been actively involved in several clinical trials and research projects. She serves as the Project Leader for a study on the safety and efficacy of oral anticoagulant in elderly cardioembolic stroke patients, a project ongoing since 2017. Additionally, she has contributed as a co-investigator to multiple studies, including neurocognitive impairment screening among obstructive sleep apnoea patients, the safety and efficacy of oral anticoagulant in post-stroke acute patients, and the effectiveness and tolerability of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation compared with propranolol in migraine prophylaxis. She is also a co-investigator in research identifying risk factors among COPD subjects. Her educational background includes SPM from MRSM Jasin Melaka (1998-2000), a matriculation certificate from Kolej Matrikulasi Penang (2001), and her medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (2002-2007). Her postgraduate qualification, MRCP (UK), was completed in 2011. Throughout her career, Liyana Najwa Inche Mat has demonstrated a commitment to advancing medical knowledge and improving patient care through both her clinical and academic roles. Her ongoing research and leadership in clinical trials reflect her dedication to the field of neurology and her contribution to the medical community at Universiti Putra Malaysia.
