Emeritus Professor Dato’ Dr Wan Azman Wan Ahmad is a visiting consultant cardiologist at University Malaya Medical Centre, recognized nationally and internationally as a key opinion leader in cardiology, with over 150 original papers and extensive leadership roles.
Emeritus Professor Dato’ Dr Wan Azman bin Wan Ahmad graduated from University of Malaya (UM) in 1983. He has had a distinguished career in cardiology, serving as Head of Cardiology at University of Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) from 2001 to 2016. In addition, he was Head of the Department of Medicine at UM from 2004 to 2009. In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded the title of Emeritus Professor by University Malaya in 2024. Currently, he continues his service as a visiting consultant at UMMC. Professor Wan Azman has gained recognition at both national and international levels as a key opinion leader in cardiology. His expertise and leadership have been acknowledged through the awarding of thirteen Fellowships and numerous prestigious awards. He has played significant roles as a council member of various professional bodies, organized numerous conferences, and served as an expert panelist on various Clinical Practice Guidelines. He is also one of the writers of the Consensus Statement of the Asia Renal Denervation Consortium. His research contributions are extensive, having served as principal investigator for more than 60 studies, including many landmark clinical trials and 'first in man' trials. He has presented his research findings at many international meetings, including late-breaking clinical trials at TCT USA. His scholarly output includes more than 150 original papers and 300 abstracts, reflecting his commitment to advancing the field of cardiology. Dato’ Dr Wan is the immediate Past-President of the National Heart Association of Malaysia. He also serves as editor of the National Cardiovascular Disease Database (NCVD) and is the Principal Investigator of the Malaysian Heart Failure Registry. As a renowned speaker, he is regularly invited to present at local, regional, and international events, further cementing his reputation as a leader in the field of cardiology.
