Profesor Dr Rohana Binti Abdul Ghani is an expert in endocrinology at the Fakulti Perubatan, with extensive research and publications in clinical medicine, particularly focusing on diabetes, obesity, and metabolic syndrome.
Professor Dr Rohana Binti Abdul Ghani has been serving at the Faculty of Medicine, UiTM since 9 December 2013. She is recognized for her expertise in the field of endocrinology, under the broader category of medical and health sciences, with a focus on clinical medicine. Her academic and professional journey is marked by significant qualifications, including a Master of Medicine (Internal Medicine) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Bangi, and a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery & Bachelor of Obstetrics from the National University, Ireland. She holds multiple professional certifications from the Malaysian Medical Council, including annual practice certificates for the years 2022 through 2025 and a medical registration (35529) with the Majlis Perubatan Malaysia. Her research interests are centered on health and wellness, particularly within the domains of metabolic syndrome, diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular risk. She is actively involved in numerous research projects, both as a principal investigator and as a project member. Some of her ongoing research includes studies on emerging biomarkers redefining cardiovascular risk in metabolic syndrome and obesity, mechanisms of retinal microstructural changes in diabetic retinopathy, long-term safety of Inclisiran in familial hypercholesterolemia, and the efficacy and safety of various diabetes treatments. She has also led research on the effects of very low carbohydrate diets on metabolic profiles and cardiovascular risks, as well as studies on the impact of dioxins and other metabolic factors in patient populations. Profesor Dr Rohana has an impressive publication record, with numerous indexed journal articles and other scholarly works. Her publications cover a wide range of topics, including diabetes education programs during Ramadhan, the application of clinical indices in endocrinology, genetic studies in obesity, metabolite biomarkers in diabetes, and case reports on rare endocrine disorders. She has contributed to journals, newsletters, exhibitions, and proceedings, reflecting her commitment to advancing medical knowledge and patient care. Her work also extends to research ethics, having contributed to guidelines and manuals for research ethics committees at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM). Her scholarly impact is evidenced by her citation metrics, with an H-index of 16 on Scopus, 9 on Web of Science, and 17 on Google Scholar. These metrics highlight her influence and the recognition of her research within the scientific community. In addition to her research and publication activities, Profesor Dr Rohana is actively involved in postgraduate supervision. She serves as the main supervisor and co-supervisor for master's students working on topics such as thyroid dysfunction in type 2 diabetes mellitus and the association between NT-proBNP, kidney function, and endothelial dysfunction in diabetic patients.
