Jinho Shin, MD, PhD, is a distinguished Professor of Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine at Hanyang University College of Medicine, Seoul, South Korea. He also serves as the Director of the Paiknam Cardiovascular Center at Hanyang University Seoul Hospital and is a faculty member of the Cardiology service at the same institution. Dr. Shin was born on January 1, 1969, and is based at Hanyang University Seoul Hospital in Seoul. Dr. Shin completed his entire medical education at Hanyang University College of Medicine, earning his M.D. in 1993, M.S. in 1997, and Ph.D. in 2002. He holds board certifications from the Korean Board of Internal Medicine (No: 5638) and the Korean Board of Cardiology (No. 356), and is a licensed Medical Doctor (License No. 49796). His academic career began as a Fulltime Instructor in the Division of Cardiology, Internal Medicine at Eulji University Medical College, Daejon, South Korea from 2000 to 2002. He then served as a Research Fellow at Weil Cornell Medical College, New York, NY, USA, and at New York Presbyterian Hospital, Weill Cornell Medical College at New York City, Cornell University from 2002 to 2003. Dr. Shin joined Hanyang University College of Medicine as an Assistant Professor in 2003, was promoted to Associate Professor in 2006, and has been a Professor in the Division of Cardiology since 2013. Dr. Shin has been actively involved in several professional societies, particularly the Korean Society of Hypertension. He served as Secretary of the Clinical Practice Guideline Committee from 2010 to 2021, Director of the Scientific Committee from 2019 to 2021, and Secretary General from 2011 to May 2013. He was also a scientific committee member of the Working Group of Blood Pressure Measurement in the Korean Society of Hypertension from 2020 to 2021. Additionally, he contributed as an investigator and consultant for the quality control of blood pressure measurement in the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination and Survey from 2010 to 2015. Dr. Shin is a prolific researcher with an h-index of 32. He has served as both corresponding and first author on numerous peer-reviewed publications, focusing on hypertension, cardiovascular disease, blood pressure monitoring, and related epidemiological studies. His recent works include studies on home blood pressure monitoring in resistant hypertension, interventions for adherence improvement in cardiovascular disease prevention, and the roles of sodium and volume overload on hypertension in chronic kidney disease. He has also contributed to expert consensus statements and clinical guidelines, including the 2013 Korean Society of Hypertension guidelines for the management of hypertension. His research has been published in reputable journals such as Clinical Hypertension, Korean Circulation Journal, Kidney Research and Clinical Practice, Advances in Therapy, Journal of Clinical Hypertension, Journal of Cardiology, Journal of Cardiovascular Ultrasound, Medicine, Journal of Human Genetics, American Journal of Hypertension, and BMC Medical Genetics, among others. Dr. Shin's work has addressed a wide range of topics, including the accuracy of blood pressure measurement devices, the relationship between blood pressure and metabolic syndrome, the impact of sodium intake, and the epidemiology of hypertension in Korea. Through his leadership roles, research, and clinical expertise, Dr. Jinho Shin has made significant contributions to the field of cardiology and hypertension in Korea, advancing both clinical practice and public health initiatives.
