Dato-Wira’ Dr. Ramachandran Lakshminarayanan is a Professor at MAHSA University with extensive experience as a Senior Consultant Physician and academic leader in Malaysia.
Dato-Wira’ Dr. Ramachandran Lakshminarayanan DGMK DSDK SDK BCK, MBBS (Monash), MRCP (UK), FRCP (Edin), FRCP (Lond), FRCP (Glasg), FAMM, was born on November 6, 1948. He began his education at St Michaels School and Sultan Abdul Hamid College in Alor Star, Malaysia, from 1956 to 1967, culminating in a Higher School Certificate (HSC). He distinguished himself early, earning the Gold Medal for being the top student in Kedah and ranking among the top five in Malaysia for the Malayan Certificate of Education (MCE) and Cambridge School Certificate. His academic excellence earned him the prestigious Colombo Plan Scholarship to study medicine at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, where he completed his MBBS in November 1973. Following his graduation, he undertook houseman training at Box Hill Hospital, affiliated with Monash University in Melbourne. Dr. Lakshminarayanan passed the MRCP (UK) in March 1981, marking a significant milestone in his medical career. He began his professional journey as a Clinical Specialist Physician at the General Hospital in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, serving from March 1981 to September 1981. He then moved to the General Hospital in Alor Star, Malaysia, where he served as Consultant Physician from September 1981 to May 1991. He advanced to the position of Senior Consultant Physician and Head of the Department of Internal Medicine at the General Hospital in Alor Star, holding this leadership role from May 1991 to November 2004. His contributions to the hospital and the field of internal medicine were significant during this period. Dr. Lakshminarayanan transitioned to academia as a Senior Associate Professor at AIMST University from November 2004 to April 2009. He continued his academic career as a Professor at MAHSA University from 2009 to 2019 and has remained in this role since 2020. He is registered with the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC No: 28157) and the National Specialist Register (NSR 134668). Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Lakshminarayanan has combined clinical expertise with academic leadership, contributing to the advancement of medical education and healthcare in Malaysia.
