Full Biography

Dr Noor Muhammad Azlan Shah Bin Atan is a dedicated cardiology fellow and internal medicine physician currently serving at the Cardiology Department of Institut Jantung Negara (IJN), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He holds an MBBS and a Master of Medicine (Internal Medicine) from the University of Malaya, having completed his foundation program at Pusat Asasi Sains Universiti Malaya in 2007. His medical registration includes MMC 64804 and NSR 141453. Dr Azlan Shah's professional journey began as a house officer at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun, Ipoh, Perak, from 2013 to 2015. He then served as a Medical Officer at Hospital Sungai Buloh, Selangor, from 2015 to 2018, before moving to University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC), where he worked as a Medical Officer from 2018 to 2021. He further advanced his training as a Cardiology Registrar and Medical Registrar at UMMC between 2021 and 2022. He subsequently held positions as a Floating Medical Specialist at Hospital Ampang and as a Medical Specialist and Gazetting Medical Specialist at Hospital Shah Alam, Selangor, until mid-2024. He also briefly served as a Visiting Medical Physician at Hospital Umra, Shah Alam, before joining IJN in September 2024. Throughout his career, Dr Azlan Shah has been actively involved in teaching and administrative roles. He has coordinated and supervised medical education for medical officers and house officers, organized medical conferences, and served as an honorary lecturer for the University of Cyberjaya and Lincoln University College. He has also contributed to clinical pathway development and quality improvement initiatives, such as Lean Healthcare and Casemix coordination at Hospital Shah Alam. Dr Azlan Shah is a prolific contributor to medical literature, with numerous publications and poster presentations at national and international congresses. His research covers a wide range of topics in cardiology and internal medicine, including heart failure, cardiac imaging, arrhythmias, myocardial infarction, and rare case reports. Notable publications include studies on ARNI versus Perindopril for remodeling in HFrEF, the Aslanger Pattern with complete heart block, and the use of point-of-care ultrasound in atypical thoracic aortic aneurysms. He has also presented on topics such as echocardiography, anticoagulation in atrial fibrillation, and heart failure management at various workshops and conferences. He is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Malaysian Medical Council, National Specialist Register, Academy of Medicine of Malaysia, European Society of Cardiology, British Society of Echocardiography, National Heart Association of Malaysia, and multiple other national and international societies related to cardiology and internal medicine. Dr Azlan Shah's contributions have been recognized through numerous awards and honors, such as the Winner for Oral Presentation at the 14th Asia Pacific Cardiology Update at USM (2023), Gold Medallist in Sukan Catur KKM (2023), and several university and national accolades for academic and extracurricular excellence. He has also received the Good Clinical Practice (GCP) certification and the Hadiah Latihan Persekutuan from the Ministry of Health Malaysia. In addition to his clinical and academic pursuits, Dr Azlan Shah is involved in societal contributions as an alumnus of several educational institutions. His areas of expertise include internal medicine and cardiology, and he continues to advance the field through research, education, and clinical excellence.
