Full Biography

Dr. Hana Azhari is a dedicated Family Medicine Specialist currently serving at Klinik Primer HCTM, Department of Family Medicine, UKM. Her commitment to the well-being of children and cardiovascular risk reduction is evident throughout her career and professional activities. Dr. Azhari's educational journey began at the ELC International School in Malaysia, where she achieved outstanding results in her GCE and GCSEs, earning an award for the best results in the May 2003 London O Level Examinations and serving as Head Girl. She continued her studies at The International School of Penang (Uplands), where she was awarded an academic scholarship and completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma with 43 points. Dr. Azhari pursued her medical degree at the University of Southampton, UK, from 2005 to 2010, graduating with a Bachelor of Medicine and a distinction in the BM Primary Examinations. Her comprehensive training included extended matching items, clinical summaries, ethics and law, critical appraisal, mini CEX, and OSCE components. Following her graduation, she completed her Foundation Year 1 at Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust, UK, rotating through general medicine, gastroenterology, general surgery, colorectal surgery, and ENT. She then undertook her Foundation Year 2 at Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Trust, UK, gaining experience in neonatal and paediatrics (tertiary NICU centre), trauma and orthopaedic surgery, and accident and emergency medicine. Returning to Malaysia, Dr. Azhari served as a Medical Officer at Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz, UKM Medical Centre from 2013 to 2017, working in paediatric surgery, paediatrics, and general surgery. Since April 2017, she has been with Klinik Primer HCTM (UKM), where she has held roles as Medical Officer and Family Medicine Specialist. Her excellence in service was recognized with the Anugerah Perkhidmatan Cemerlang in 2018. She has also taken on administrative roles, including Medical Officer ‘In-Charge’ and Medical Officer in charge of Continuous Medical Education. Dr. Azhari has pursued extensive postgraduate training and certifications. She holds the MAFP/icFRACGP (2023) and Graduate Certificate in Family Medicine (2021) from the Academy of Family Physicians of Malaysia. She has completed MRCPCH Foundation of Practice and Theory and Science (2013) from the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, MRCS A (2012) from the Royal College of Surgeons of England, and certifications in child and family-friendly healthcare practices and advanced cardiac life support. She is a member of several professional organizations, including the Academy of Family Physicians Malaysia, the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, the Malaysian Society of Hypertension, and the Malaysian Obesity Society. Dr. Azhari is actively involved in teaching, serving as a committee member for patient safety, supervisor for undergraduate medical students, lecturer for child and family-friendly healthcare practices, and GP trainer for clinical skills learning. Her contributions extend to speaking engagements and presentations, such as workshops on dengue and malaria management, maternal and child health, severe hypertension, and autism in primary care. She has presented posters at conferences, including a case report on depression in an adolescent with dyslexia. Dr. Azhari’s research and publications cover topics such as caregiver burden in autism spectrum disorder, parental knowledge of childhood constipation, phytoestrogen levels in neonates, and genetic case reports in paediatrics. Dr. Azhari has played key roles in organizing scientific congresses and leading departmental initiatives, including serving as President of Kelab Familia, Department of Family Medicine, and as a resource personnel for the Health Committee of the National Council of Women’s Organisations Malaysia. She is also committed to social work, participating in health screening and tuberculosis screening programmes for various communities, including Orang Asli and women’s health initiatives. Outside her professional life, Dr. Azhari enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, swimming, and open water diving, having completed notable hikes and swimming events. She also engages in reading, writing, and creative pursuits in her free time.
