Prof. Dr. Khoo Ee Ming is an Honorary Professor at the Department of Primary Care Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya, with extensive expertise in primary care, chronic diseases, and medical education.
Prof. Dr. Khoo Ee Ming serves as an Honorary Professor at the Department of Primary Care Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya. She holds an MD from Universiti Malaya, an MBBS from the University of London, and multiple fellowships and memberships from esteemed institutions such as the Academy of Medicine of Malaysia, the Royal College of General Practitioners (UK), and the British Society of Clinical Hypnosis. Her academic qualifications also include FBSCH (Medicine) from the British Society of Clinical Hypnosis, FAMM (Medicine), AM (Medicine), and MRCGP (Perubatan Keluarga). She is a registered specialist in Family Medicine with the National Specialist Register and the Academy of Medicine of Malaysia. Prof. Dr. Khoo has played significant roles in academic administration, including serving as Head of Department, Programme Coordinator, and committee member for various educational and research boards at Universiti Malaya and national bodies. She has been an examiner for MBBS and Masters in Family Medicine examinations for over two decades and has contributed to curriculum development and postgraduate education at both university and national levels. Her leadership extends to being a member of the Medical Advisory Council at University Malaya Medical Centre and participating in national curriculum writing groups for postgraduate medical education. Her professional memberships are extensive, including the Malaysian Association of Scientific Research in Psychiatry, Malaysia Primary Care Research Group, Asia Pacific Journal of Public Health (Editorial Board Member), Academy of Family Physicians of Malaysia (Council Member), Malaysian Hypertension Society (Council Member), NPJ Primary Care Respiratory Medicine (Editorial Board Member), and the Royal College of General Practitioners (UK). She has also served as a mentor in the Academy of Family Physicians of Malaysia's Advanced Training Programme and has been involved in editorial and advisory roles for several journals and organizations. Prof. Dr. Khoo has received numerous awards and recognitions, such as the Best Oral Presentation Merit Award and Best Short Oral Presentation Award at the 7th Asia Pacific Primary Care Research Conference, Excellence Award for Academic Staff with the Highest External Research Grant, Best Abstract Presentation at the IPCRG Scientific Meeting, and multiple Excellence Service Awards from Universiti Malaya. She has also been recognized as a keynote speaker at international forums and has received awards for her contributions to research, academic service, and clinical excellence. Her research interests include chronic diseases, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidaemia, respiratory diseases, somatisation disorder, men's health, women's health, primary care system delivery, and geriatric care. She has served as Principal Investigator and Consultant on numerous national and international research projects, including studies on asthma care, tuberculosis, dengue, diabetes, and primary care system evaluation. Her consultancy work includes advisory roles for the International Primary Care Respiratory Group, Asia Pacific Journal of Public Health, and the NIHR/Edinburgh Global Respiratory eHealth (RESPIRE) Unit. Prof. Dr. Khoo is a prolific author, with an extensive publication record in peer-reviewed journals, books, book chapters, and conference proceedings. Her work covers a wide range of topics, including chronic respiratory diseases, cardiovascular risk, asthma management, diabetes care, and patient safety in primary care. She has contributed to clinical practice guidelines and has been involved in the development of educational materials for both healthcare professionals and patients. She is also deeply involved in teaching and supervision, having mentored undergraduate and postgraduate students, including PhD and Masters candidates, in various research projects. Her teaching portfolio spans the Master of Family Medicine, Advanced Training in Family Medicine, Graduate Certificate in Family Medicine, and undergraduate medical programmes at Universiti Malaya. She has also contributed to diploma programmes and has supervised numerous research theses and clinical projects. Beyond academia, Prof. Dr. Khoo has engaged in social responsibility activities, organizing and facilitating public health forums, workshops, and community outreach programmes focused on chronic disease awareness, cancer, hypertension, and health screening. She has served as Vice President of the Malaysian Hypertension Club and has been a frequent speaker and organizer for public health initiatives. Prof. Dr. Khoo Ee Ming's distinguished career reflects her commitment to advancing primary care medicine, medical education, research, and community health both in Malaysia and internationally.
